About Walden

About Walden

Since its founding in 2003, Walden Behavioral Care has become a national leader in the treatment of eating disorders and psychiatric disorders.

Walden's success comes from its "whole health" approach, which considers every aspect of each patient's healthcare needs concurrently, including:

  • Medical issues
  • Psychiatric issues
  • Co-occurring disorders
  • Behavioral treatment
  • Nutrition and diet
  • The environment in which the patient is treated

Walden also recognizes that one type of treatment will not fit the needs of every patient. What works for one patient doesn't necessarily work for another patient. Likewise, patients enter Walden with many different types of disorders, and at different stages of an eating disorder or psychiatric disorder.

Walden's "continuum of care" approach adapts treatment to match the changing needs of patients as they progress toward recovery. For patients with eating disorders, Walden's continuum of care includes:

  • In-patient treatment
  • Residential care
  • Partial hospitalization at facilities in Waltham and Northampton, Mass.
  • Intensive out-patient care in Waltham and Northampton

Drs. Stuart Koman and David Fassler, founders of Walden, were pioneers in developing the continuum of care approach at Choate Health Systems, which they previously founded. They were also among the first to use a family-centered approach to treatment. They continue to recognize the importance of family support and incorporate family into treatment plans whenever possible.
