Acute Psychiatric Services
Walden Behavioral Care focuses on providing its patients with acute psychiatric services, including psychiatric and psychological evaluations and treatment, 24-hour nursing care and ongoing medical, behavioral and nutritional therapy.
Acute psychiatric services provided by Walden Behavioral Care include both in-patient care and partial hospitalization for patients 16 and older. Psychiatric disorders we treat include:
The acute psychiatric services at Walden Behavioral Care are designed to be welcoming, safe and comfortable. We recognize that admitting a loved one to receive psychiatric care can create a great deal of anxiety. Our acute psychiatric services are designed to help minimize that anxiety.
Patients participate in a wide variety of individual, group and family counseling programs. Group programs form the cornerstone of Walden's acute psychiatric services. They provide an opportunity for patients to learn about themselves by hearing from other patients. They learn new skills, provide and receive support, learn more about their disease and build the confidence they need to live control their illness. They also bring us together as a community.
Acute Psychiatric Services That Treat The "Whole Person"
At Walden, we follow a "whole health" approach. The "whole health" approach takes virtually every aspect of the patient's life into account - medical and psychiatric issues, medication, the environment in which the patient is treated, the patient's diet and outside support are just some of the factors considered.
Patients with psychiatric disorders often have more than one disorder. They may have eating disorders and substance abuse issues. They are also likely to have medical issues that need to be addressed. When co-occurring disorders are not treated together, one disorder typically worsens as the other disorder improves.
Walden also believes that no one approach is sufficient to achieve complete recovery. At Walden, a multidisciplinary team is assigned to each patient to develop a plan that addresses all aspects of the patient's psychiatric and medical needs.
The multidisciplinary team approach helps patients develop the skills necessary to gain control of their psychiatric disorder - or disorders - improve their support system, increase self-esteem and establish a stable foundation for long-term recovery.
By treating the whole person, rather than focusing on only one symptom, we can better provide a lasting recovery.
Acute Psychiatric Services From People Who Care
Our staff also is committed to making our patients feel welcome and cared for. That's why we recruit staff based not only on ability, but on attitude.
Walden's acute psychiatric services are provided by experienced professionals representing each of the primary mental health disciplines - psychiatry, psychology, nursing and social work - as well as professionals who focus on internal medicine, nutrition, recreation and other aspects of wellness. Walden's professional staff understands that the best acute psychiatric services integrate all of these areas with the patient's needs and goals.
Coordination with outside clinicians, social service agencies and patients' families helps ensure a smooth transition not only when patients come to Walden, but when they no longer need our acute psychiatric services and are ready to re-integrate back into the community.
Acute Psychiatric Services That Are Safe And Nurturing
When you come to Walden to admit a family member or other loved one, we hope you will take a close look at the acute psychiatric services we provide.
Walden provides both in-patient care and partial hospitalization.
Walden's Adult In-Patient Psychiatric Program provides comprehensive acute psychiatric services and substance abuse treatment. Several managed healthcare plans use Walden as a regional treatment facility for patients with acute psychiatric distress. Our in-patient acute psychiatric services are provided in a secure, dedicated setting that has an abundance of natural light and is painted in bright colors that are not typical for an institutional setting.
Our partial hospitalization program is designed so that patients can easily adjust, switching from their home environment to a setting where they will receive the acute psychiatric services they need to achieve recovery. Patients attend the partial hospital care program based on a schedule they develop with their primary therapist. Partial hospital treatment is designed to provide ongoing support to individuals, so that they do not require hospital care.
All acute psychiatric services are provided in newly renovated, environmentally conducive therapeutic space with bright colors, natural light, scenic views and many quiet places.
Hospitals that provide medical care go to great lengths to provide a germ-free environment to protect their patients' health. Likewise, psychiatric hospitals need to provide acute psychiatric services that are conducive to their patients' recovery.
Patients in psychiatric hospitals, like the rest of us, will feel better and recover more quickly if they receive acute psychiatric services in an environment that is welcoming, comforting and nurturing.
Acute Psychiatric Services From People Who Understand
Even the best mental health services cannot meet every need of their patients. There are times when patients need their families and friends for support and encouragement. We need families and friends to help and encourage them to do so. We also recognize that it is difficult to care for an individual with a psychiatric disorder. We provide support groups to help families and friends, and to educate them about the needs of their loved ones.
