Depression Treatment
Depression Treatment at Walden Behavioral Care
Walden Behavioral Care is one of the few psychiatric hospitals in the country to open during the current decade, offering both inpatient care and partial hospitalization for the treatment of depression. The Walden depression treatment staff includes experienced professionals representing each of the primary mental health disciplines - psychiatry, psychology, nursing and social work - as well as professionals who focus on internal medicine, nutrition, recreation and other aspects of wellness.
While depression treatment at Walden is based on the individual's circumstances, scientific research confirms two critical features of effective depression treatment:
- Combining medical depression treatment with psychological intervention produces results that are superior to those achieved by either depression treatment approach alone.
- Patients who make educated decisions about their care, and who are self-directed toward meaningful life goals, are far more likely to follow through with treatment of depression and achieve lasting results.
With this in mind, Walden staff does everything possible to engage both the patients undergoing depression treatment and their families to achieve lasting results.
Depression Treatment: Levels of Care
A knowledgeable, involved approach to crisis intervention and management helps depression treatment patients and their families handle crises in a way that promotes healing and growth. Compassion and respect of patients undergoing treatment for depression are standards throughout the program. We provide an environment that gives patients plenty of privacy, and helps them feel comfortable and safe during depression treatment.
Walden's Inpatient Psychiatric Program provides comprehensive depression treatment. Several managed-healthcare plans use Walden as a regional depression treatment facility for patients with acute psychiatric distress.
Walden's Partial Hospitalization Program provides a bridge between inpatient care and independent living, so that patients undergoing depression treatment can better make the transition to outpatient services. Staff assist depression treatment patients in maintaining their prescribed therapy and help them make the lifestyle changes they need to make to live independently.
The depression treatment program includes:
- Comprehensive psychiatric evaluation
- Alcohol and chemical dependency evaluation
- Individual, family and group psychotherapy
- Psychopharmacological evaluations
- Occupational therapy
- Specialized programs for addicted patients with co-existing psychiatric and medical disorders
- Individualized after-care and follow-up services with links to the community
- Nutrition evaluations and interventions
- Case management
Inpatient Depression Treatment
Patients undergoing depression treatment at Walden's inpatient Thoreau Center receive comprehensive psychiatric and psychological evaluations. Treatment of depression at Walden also includes 24-hour nursing care and ongoing medical, behavioral and nutrition therapy.
Depression treatment patients participate in a wide variety of individual, group and family counseling programs. Group programs provide an opportunity for patients to learn about themselves by hearing from other patients undergoing depression treatment. They gain new skills, provide and receive support, and learn about depression and the available depression treatments.
The inpatient depression treatment program operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and serves patients 16 or older with severe psychiatric symptoms. The goals of patient hospitalization for the treatment of depression are to:
- Establish basic emotional and cognitive stability
- Develop and implement a comprehensive treatment plan, including medication, therapy and nutrition.
- Begin developing an Individual Recovery Plan (IRP) that identifies specific goals, life changes and effective methods for achieving those goals.
Partial Hospitalization For Depression Treatment
Depression treatment patients attend the partial hospital program based on a schedule they develop with their primary therapist. Partial hospital treatment for depression is designed to provide ongoing support to individuals, so that they do not require hospital care.
The partial hospitalization staff assists depression treatment patients in maintaining their therapeutic regime. The staff helps them make the lifestyle changes they need to live independently and achieve full recovery following their treatment for depression. The goals of partial hospitalization's treatment for depression are to:
- Increase emotional and cognitive stability
- Identify contributing factors of current distress and initiate changes to alleviate distress
- Develop and implement an Individual Recovery Plan (IRP) that identifies specific goals, life changes and effective methods for achieving those goals.
