The First Step Toward Recovery

Walden’s Adolescent Inpatient Eating Disorder Treatment Program provides adolescents and teens with the most intensive level of care.   The program is a structured, medically monitored, therapeutic program for females and males 12 to 17 years of age who require 24 hour medical management as they start their step-by-step journey toward recovery from an eating disorder.  At this acute level of care, patients are slowly stabilized both medically and behaviorally.  During this process, vital signs are monitored frequently and 24 hour nursing care is provided.  Once the stabilization process is complete, plans are made to advance the patient to a less intense level of care. Another key component of the program is providing education to both the patient and their family on eating disorders and proper nutrition with the aim of reducing anxiety, promoting coping skills, and restoring hope for recovery.

Requirements:

• Female and male, 12-17 years of age
• Require 24 hour hospital care
• Cannot be treated at a less intense setting

Goals:

• Stabilize patient, both medically and behaviorally
• Decrease use of eating disordered behaviors
• Educate adolescents and families on eating disorders and proper nutrition with the aim of reducing anxiety, promoting coping skills, and restoring hope for recovery
• Prepare adolescents and families for the next step in recovery

• A highly structured daily schedule that includes daily groups and activities for teens and an intensive therapy day for parents
