Type 1 Diabetes Eating Disorder Program for Adolescents and Adults

Type 1 Diabetes Eating Disorder Program for Adolescents and Adults
I came in a scared person, terrified, not knowing what to expect and you welcomed me with open arms.
Former Patient

Walden’s Type 1 Diabetes Eating Disorder Program provides adults and adolescents with type 1 diabetes and eating disorder treatment at the in-patient and residential levels of care. The program is a structured, medically monitored, therapeutic program for females and males 12 years of age and older who require 24-hour medical management as they begin their journey toward managing their diabetes and recovering from an eating disorder.

Prior to entering the program, potential patients are evaluated at Joslin Diabetes Center. If a patient already has an endocrinologist, Joslin doctors will consult with the endocrinologist during the evaluation. After the evaluation, a Joslin physician will develop a diabetes treatment plan for Walden staff to follow while the patient’s eating disorder is being treated at Walden. Walden’s medical, nutritional and nursing staff have been specially trained by Joslin Diabetes Center staff to help patients manage their diabetes. In addition, Walden staff have 24-hour access to consulting endocrinologists at Joslin.
